Once upon a time, in a small village in Nigeria, there lived a cat named Obi and a rat named Chuks. Obi was a sleek, black cat with bright green eyes, while Chuks was a small, brown rat with a long tail.

Obi and Chuks were not friends. In fact, they were enemies. Obi loved to chase Chuks, and Chuks was always running away from him. One day, Obi finally caught Chuks and was about to eat him when Chuks said, "Wait! Don't eat me. I have a story to tell you."

Obi was curious, so he agreed to let Chuks go. "What is your story?" he asked.

"It is a story about why cats chase rats," said Chuks.

Obi settled down to listen.

"Once upon a time," began Chuks, "there was a great famine in the land. All the animals were starving, including the cats and the rats. One day, a group of cats came to a village and asked the villagers for food. The villagers were kind and gave the cats some food.

"The next day, the cats came back to the village and asked for more food. The villagers were still kind, but they were starting to run out of food. They told the cats that they could only give them a little bit of food each day.

"The cats were angry. They felt that the villagers were being unfair. They decided to get revenge on the villagers by eating their rats.

"The rats were terrified. They knew that if the cats ate them, they would all die. So they came up with a plan.

"The next day, when the cats came to the village, the rats were waiting for them. The rats had dug a big hole in the ground and covered it with leaves. When the cats came, the rats jumped into the hole and covered themselves with the leaves.

"The cats were furious. They couldn't find the rats anywhere. They searched and searched, but they couldn't find them.

"Finally, the cats gave up and went away. The rats were safe, and they had taught the cats a lesson.

"That is why cats chase rats," said Chuks. "It is because the rats stole their food long ago."

Obi was amazed by the story. He had never heard it before. He thanked Chuks for telling him the story and then let him go.

From that day on, Obi and Chuks were friends. They never forgot the story of why cats chase rats, and they always helped each other out when they could.
